Maps Escape is the 5th original Escape the Room game by JuegosdeEscape.net and CafeCafe Games.
This walkthrough is probably the funniest I've read so far. It was created by zoz, a loyal reader of Escape Games 24. Enjoy it.
Essential clues in CAPS, editorial small-talk in lower case, so you can skip all my little useless and pointless comments if you like…
SCENE 1 (henceforth called “Map Scene”)
CLICK NOTEPAD ON TABLE; noooooooooo, it’s an unlabeled map!!! Am I going to have to look stuff up or learn something? Noooooooo!
TINY ORANGE DOT @ BOTTOM LEFT OF TABLE looks like a country. Or possibly the head of an orange elephant.
OPEN CURTAINS: BLUE PIECE ON TOP LEFT CURTAIN ROD is, thankfully, just a key. Omg, it’s a key!
CLICK AROUND WINDOW TO GET YELLOW COUNTRY (Chile)
PLANT ATOP THE CABINET: MOVE THE LARGEST LEAF to reveal yet another orange country. More work for the geographically challenged.
RIGHT CORNER FLOOR TRAPDOOR opens to reveal… another country. At least it’s not orange.
LEFT TO SCENE WITH COW
CLICK ON COW PICTURE ON THE RIGHT and you will see that, just as you suspected, Paraguay was lurking just below the cow’s ear! That must have been irritating.
FAR RIGHT ROW OF BOOKS, THE MIDDLE BOOK COMES OUT. OPEN IT AND YOU’LL SEE A LIST OF COUNTRIES ON THE LEFT AND THE CLUE A=15 BELOW THE LIST. ON THE RIGHT IS A MESSAGE that confirms that, yes, this is homework. You slackers out there should bail out now.
For those of you who don’t bail out, may I recommend this link:
notice I didn’t put it in caps. Let the caps squad find it on their own. Also notice, as I just did, that the link is longer than the solution for Pi. But I digress…
AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN ON THE RIGHT: x=2. Please don’t tell me there’s math in this too. o.m.g.
LEFT TO SCENE WITH COUCH
LIGHT GREEN THING UNDER COUCH is another country. Why can’t everybody get along and just merge into one big country? Just an idea…
TOP OF COUCH BETWEEN CUSHIONS: GREEN KEY
Now, you’re so p%#@d about all these countries that you KNOCK THE PAINTING DOWN. Oh, great, now we have to figure out a four digit code? For real?
LOWER RIGHT OF SCREEN: y=7
LEFT TO REFRIGERATOR SCENE
NOTE LETTERS ON FRIGE SPELL “AMERIC”, OR POSSIBLY “MERICA”. What could this mean???
CLICK ON LEMON ART, RIGHT COLUMN SECOND ROW and you will get one beautiful yellow Bolivia.
CLICK UNDER SINK CABINET FOR WHITE KEY
CLICK GRILL OVER FAN ON WALL and you’ll get absolutely nothing, but the caps squad deserves a little red herring :o}
BOTTOM RIGHT SCREEN: z=5
BACK TO MAP SCENE
PUT COUNTRIES IN PLACE knowing, of course, that the burnt orange is Argentina, light green is Uruguay, yellow is Bolivia, orange is Colombia, green is Ecuador, and red is Paraguay. Duh.
USE GREEN KEY ON LOWER RIGHT CABINET to get a black Peru, which is too bad since Peru is such a lovely country and really doesn’t deserve such a sinister color.
USE BLUE KEY ON LEFT CABINET DRAWER to get loooong skinny Cuba.
BACK TO COW SCENE
USE WHITE KEY ON LEFT SIDE OF CABINET BENEATH COW to find a lovely blue Brazil.
Abc CABINET IN KITCHEN: WE KNOW THAT a=15. THE COUNTRIES LISTED IN THE BOOK HAVE A TOTAL OF 15 a’s IN THEIR NAMES. THE NUMBER OF b’s IS 4 AND THE NUMBER OF c’s IS 5, SO THE CODE IS 1545. Whoopee, now we have an A and the entire country of Mexico!
REFRIGERATOR CODE: FIGURE THIS ONE OUT YOURSELVES you lazy bunch of gamers. Once you correctly spell “ america” (big spoiler there), you’ll get a red key and Venezuela. Ah, yes, Venezuela in 1987 on the beach…
Whoa, almost gave away some secrets of my own, there.
USE RED KEY ON RIGHT DOOR OF CABINET BENEATH COW and you get three countries (Guyana, Surinam, and French Guiana) all at once!
A FORMULA APPEARS ON THE MAP:
Easy, no? Oh, for Pete’s sake just USE 4276 IN THE SAFE IN THE COUCH SCENE
Now you have a lovely pink screwdriver! But before you can use it, there’s the
COLOR CODE IN THE COW SCENE: LOOK AT YOUR MAP AND MATCH THE COLORS WITH COUNTRIES. WE KNOW FROM THE MAP THAT BRAZIL=6. “BRAZIL” HAS 6 LETTERS. SO COUNT THE NUMBER OF LETTERS IN EACH COUNTRY NAME AND ENTER THESE NUMBERS IN THE ORDER OF THE COLORS.
Or just enter 67769858
AND YOU’RE, eh, not out. Hmmm.
Ah, the screwdriver, of course! USE THE SCREWDRIVER ON THE DOOR HINGES AND YOU’RE OUT!
BTW CAFE_CAFE SAID “We never played a game yet where you took out the hinges of the door. Even when the screwdriver is a staple. We figured it could be funny to do that for once :)”
